The benefits of cannabis are numerous across a variety of medical conditions. However, there is still much research that needs to be done on the topic before making definitive conclusions. There has been enough information researched suggesting that cannabis may have medicinal value for those with specific physical and/or mental ailments. This article dives into what these potential benefits are as well as how they work within the body’s systems.

Cannabis is most commonly known for its psychoactive effects when consumed by smoking or ingesting it in an edible form, thus producing euphoria felt throughout different parts of the brain, including areas responsible for memory, pleasure, coordination, among other things. While this is not recommended due to possible adverse side effects such as an increased heart rate, dry mouth, bloodshot eyes and the possibility of an anxiety attack or paranoia;

CBD oil is a non-psychoactive extract that can be taken in much smaller doses. CBD stands for cannabidiol which has been found to have anti-inflammatory properties without any psychoactivity associated with it. CBD oil contains high amounts of CBD but low levels of THC, thus making it legal in all 50 states while still having potential benefits on its own even when no other cannabinoids are present at all within the product.

It’s important to note that cannabis contains over 400 different compounds known as cannabinoids, where CBD accounts for about 40% of these compounds. CBD is non-psychoactive due to the specific way in which it interacts with the endocannabinoid system. CBD is able to activate or deactivate different receptors within this system in order for CBD oil’s effects on pain, mood and other conditions throughout the body can take place.

Medical Benefits of Cannabis

Now that CBD oil is well known for being a non-psychoactive extract, it’s essential to look into some of the potential medical benefits associated with cannabis. CBD oil has been found to be effective in reducing inflammation as well as pain without any psychoactivity or feelings of euphoria associated with other cannabinoids such as THC. CBD oil has even been used as an antiemetic which is excellent news for those who suffer from chronic nausea and vomiting. CBD oil has also been shown to help reduce anxiety levels in people with social anxiety disorder and was even able to improve symptoms of insomnia in those who participated in a small study. CBD oil may also prove beneficial for those suffering from seizures, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease and even cancer. CBD oil has also been shown to help in the treatment of acne when placed on the skin topically or consumed orally via CBD capsules.

Research is still currently being conducted with CBD oil and its potential medical benefits, but it’s clear that there are some positive effects so far based on research conducted thus far, which includes increased neurogenesis within the brain when CBD was administered over a period of time meaning that CBD may actually slow down how quickly one’s memory declines due to ageing; these results were published by researchers at The University of South Florida (Russo).

Overall, more research needs to be done before definitive conclusions can be made about whether cannabis is effective for treating certain conditions like epilepsy, chronic pain and many others. CBD oil has already been approved in many states for treating seizures and pain, but the federal government still considers CBD to be a schedule I drug; meaning that it’s highly likely CBD will remain illegal at the national level even if more research were to find positive results like increasing neurogenesis or decreasing feelings of anxiety.
