Success in practical life requires us to have some necessary skills. Sadly, lousy game designs and gadgets are stopping your kids from learning them. Addiction to repetitive mobile games and expensive gadgets like body cam glasses are just some of the things we parents have to worry about. In this article, we will go through some of the essential skills your kids need to learn and the activities that you can use for that purpose. Cook with your kids:

Provides cooking skills, builds responsibility, helps in management skills. Cooking is a necessity, fun and creative career choice, and a healthy habit. Any activity in which your kid gets to improve with you will further develop and improve your bond with them.

Cooking trains your kids in primarily the knowledge and skills of preparing their meals. It imbues in them a sense of responsibility by understanding the work it takes to put food on the table so that they do not take it for granted. My favorite activity with my kids by far is jigsaw puzzles. I usually do 1000 piece jigsaw puzzles on my own, and my kids just started to join me, forcing me to buy smaller puzzles for them. Over the years, I have seen how they use the critical thinking developed from these puzzles into everyday life, including their studies.

They are incredibly relaxing for my kids and me and help them be calmer and less anxious in life, not just during the puzzles.

Read Out Aloud:

There are two ways to do this. You can either read out their favorite stories and novels as they listen. Or you can make them responsible for reading it aloud for you while you are doing less intensive tasks around the house like small chores, cleaning, cooking. Speech and listening skills are becoming increasingly insufficient; gadgets and games usually provide visual cues to respond to while your kids respond through touch screens such as bodycam glasses. If you can hook them early enough and reward their behavior, reading aloud will develop their love for reading and teach them amazing things about the world. Make them more emphatic and aware, improve their vocabulary and their ability to write and speak cogent sentences. Need I say more?

I started my kids by reading passages from Harry Potter’s first books and then graduated them to any articles or news stories I think they should know about. I try to find fun and entertaining things, but I slip in tough and essential stuff in there. Just like cooking, they feel responsible for reading aloud for my husband and me.

Singing:

If you are looking up for that one activity to boost your bond with your kids while improving their mood, singing is the best thing, hands down. I highly recommend you to do it with them, but the kids can do it by themselves, albeit they would require encouragement, support, and praise from you.

Singing and their favorite song help kids release a lot of energy positively and uplift their attitude and mood. The more they sing, the better they will start to get without any special coaching or courses too! If you join in, it will help with your mood too. Put on some music, Disney songs are usually winners when starting, but your child can soon graduate into your favorite songs, whether they be from Queen, the Rolling Stones, Madonna, or Taylor Swift. You do you!

If you want an extra punch to this, I recommend adding dancing. Your child is surely going to dance either way. You can join in too if you have the energy. A bit of practice now and then will significantly help your cardio and your balancing skills, and if you start to dance, you can help your kid coordinate better and learn some proper choreography as well. I suggest you start easy instead of trying to follow videos on YouTube. At first, you should only focus on building a habit and making the activity as low cost as possible.

Jigsaws, cooking, reading, and singing can be all individual activities. But they are not going to be at the start. You have to put the hours in to help them build the habits to do it.
