A report of a potential bomb threat in the Virginia Supreme Court has prompted Capitol police to withdraw from a court in downtown Richmond.

In a Twitter post, Capitol police said they began clearing a building on North Ninth Street just before 1:30 p.m. Friday.

A search of the building and K-9 police dogs continued as the Capitol police continued their investigation.

A member of our group also demanded that people be evacuated from the Virginia Supreme Court building to the Pocahontas Building.

The intersection of E. Franklin and 8th St. is being blocked by police.

A government official said Capitol Square was closed until January 21, due to possible unrest. However, security fencing is included in the market along with other additional security measures.

“We are taking the necessary steps to protect the people and property of our economy,” he said.

This is a breaking story stay with Newswingz for updates.
